Grandson, its medieval city and castle

Its rich historical heritage and its privileged position between lake and mountain allow it to be part of the association «The most beautiful Villages of Switzerland».

Overlooking the lake of Neuchâtel, the castle of Grandson, is a medieval fortress rich of a millennium of history that found itself at the heart of European history during the Burgundy Wars between Charles the Bold and the Confederates.

Grandson Castle is the second largest castle in Switzerland and one of the best preserved fortresses in Switzerland.

Currently under construction, the Château de Grandson – a site of national importance – will house a new museum in 2026 that will highlight the monument’s history. This inauguration will coincide with the commemorations of the 550th anniversary of the Battle of Grandson. During this period of transition, the monument remains always open to the public! Visits, animations and events are organized regularly for the whole family to discover behind the scenes of the renovation of a castle.

Visits to the village and the medieval church, organized by the tourist office, are an opportunity to discover their rich history. The guide takes visitors through charming little alleys to the lake in 1h15. For small group of 5 to 20 people.
