Ancient capital of Roman Helvetia, Avenches and its vestiges of the past are worth a visit.

The Roman site of Aventicum contains many treasures that will fascinate young and old. At the foot of the medieval village, the amphitheatre recalls the time when the crowd gathered to witness animal or gladiator fights. Today, its restored arenas host every summer opera, rock and Avenches Tattoo, the only Military Tattoo in French-speaking Switzerland.
